You know I’m not currently a member of The Kate Winslet Fan Club, but as I read this story in Radar/Star Magazine, I did feel a surge of sympathy for Winslet. The story actually reminds me of a tabloid story about Meryl Streep that we covered a few months ago – remember how one of Meryl’s Connecticut neighbors was all “OMG, Meryl is such a bitch!!”? That’s what this is like. Kate Winslet is working on a film in Massachusetts – I‘m including some photos of her at work (with Ned RockNRoll in tow). Apparently, Winslet isn’t super-friendly with the residents of this small town. So now the locals are flocking to the tabloids to bitch about Winslet.
The real Kate Winslet may not be nearly as sweet as her on screen persona! Kate rudely snubbed her adoring fans in the small town of Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts recently while shooting her new movie Labor Day and Star magazine has exclusive details about her shockingly bad behavior.
“Kate was so rude, she never once acknowledged any of us, I was devastated,” hopeful fan Shanna Swan told Star. “She gave dirty looks to people in my town who waited hours to see her.”
Shanna grew up in the small town and has been a huge fan of Kate’s since she was a child and said the actress was received with open arms from the town’s people. “Upon her arrival everyone was yelling ‘Kate we love you!’ and you could hear everyone gasping with excitement when her black Cadillac pulled up.”
She said she had been waiting in the rainy cold weather with her young children to see the Oscar winning actress and was surprised when Kate refused to acknowledge the crowd of fans.
“I could feel and hear the excitement of everyone around me saying ‘OMG is that Kate? When is she coming?’ and there were lots of excited senior citizens. I witnessed several seniors asking the production staff if Kate would come and talk to fans and there were roughly 100 people waiting for her.”
Unfortunately, Shanna said Kate refused to look at the crowd and completely ignored everyone waiting to meet her.
“She always plays such warm people on the big screen, I thought she would be kind, so when she was mean, I was crushed,” Shanna said. “I watched The Titantic 13 times when I was 12 years old, and Kate wouldn’t even look up for a second to acknowledge we were all adoring her.”
“Everyone in town was really hurt, and I could hear people calling her name. After she took off, one lady right next to me specifically said, ‘Wow. How rude was that?’”
Now everyone in the small town is talking about Kate’s behavior, “She was just plain nasty. Kate was only on set for a short time and jumped back in her Cadillac and took off, without even a wave or thank you or a smile for us.”
“This was the first celebrity I’ve seen in my lifetime, and sadly the experience was hurtful to me and my entire town. Kate Winslet really left a bitter taste in our mouths.”
So Kate is a massive bitch for just putting her head down and going to work rather than glad-handing the populace like a politician? She’s not running for office – she isn’t required to spend time with random people milling about. That being said… she could have spent some time with the locals, but I think the problem is bad staff work on the part of the film production and Team Winslet. Surely a producer or an assistant would have mentioned to Kate, “Hey, can you just go over there and sign a few autographs and smile for some photos? It would go a long way towards keeping the peace.” But whatever. I don’t care for Kate, but this isn’t adding any fuel to my fire.

So Ned’s job is being an offspring of a rich family and the boyfriend of an actress.
Agree. Doesn’t he just look like the biggest doofus? Oh, well, who’s says doofuses can’t be good in bed…
Kate seems so down to earth though, I cannot see her been like that naturally, unless she just didn’t feel like do fan club stuff like signing autographs after a long day of filming. But then again you never know and on the other hand….I feel like as annoying as fans could get sometimes, it comes with the package of the fame and money you are receiving, to be at least nice to them. *shrugs*
I agree, it comes with the package of the fame and money, so just by waving and/or smiling is the least she could do.
Totally agree! A nice smile and a wave would have gone a long way. Clint Eastwood has shot movies in some of the grittiest places you could ever imagine (Highland Park, MI) and he always takes a few minutes to speak with the locals. One day, should Kate’s career hit a rough patch, she may wish she had spread a little goodwill amongst her fan base.
@lastdaze Aannddd Clint Easteood is on a reality show.
Agree. Me thinks she has forgotten where her bread is buttered. IMO she should have been gracious and chatted to HER fans who have made her RICH AND FAMOUS. Signed a few autographs, posed for some pix and moved on. But, since watching her lately I think she thinks she’s above “regular” people. Don’t like that. If she hasn’t any time for her fans…then perhaps her fans shouldn’t have any time for her and not see her movies. Then maybe she’ll put a smile on her face and treat people kindly. After all..she is where she is because of the fans.
If she is on a movie set and trying to work, she deserves to be left alone. I know if I were in the middle of some project at work, I wouldn’t even want to talk with a friend while working, let alone stop what I’m doing for superficial contact with a stranger. A red carpet, promotional or fan event is different.
Disagree, because these fans are personally responsible for Winslet’s livelihood. Fans are directly responsible for generating the money that is supporting Winslet and her family. The least she could have done is smile and wave.
I don’t hardly believe Kate would naturally be that rude to anybody. She’s done a lot of work for Autistic children and people. She hangs out at parks in public places in her town. She was’nt expecting all these dumbasses to be out in the rain waiting for to go to work. Kate was probally angered by people making over her like that and especially while she is working.
Everyone says how entitled and demanding celebrities are. I think many times it is the fans whom are being entitled. She is trying to work.
Agreed! How dare Kate be so nasty to the “excited senior citizens!” If that is the definition of nasty, then what is this Shanna woman? Totally demanding and delusional.
Very well said, Sammy.
Well Sammy…brad and angelina certainly take time for their fans when they are working. As well as other stars do. That’s because without the fans, they know they wouldn’t bring home the big bucks. I think it’s part of the job. And, Kate needs to realize that. Nothing wrong with smiling and saying hello to fans. That’s the only reason she is making the movie..for the fans. Duh!
If my paycheck was 15 million, I would be sure to ham it up with the locals in between takes.
@Rhiley…exactly! I’d be smiling, chatting and signing autographs! Bet she doesn’t have that look on her face when she is spending all of her millions. I think she is rude. And, makes me want to not go to see any movie that she is in. And, I don’t care what age the people are. If older people wanted to see her than she should have greeted them. Doesn’t matter what age the fans are…they are still fans and deserve respect!
well yes Sammy, the fans SHOULD feel entitled to a point afterall, most of these fans would never be as rich as these celebs but yet spend their hard earned money making these celebs richer. Like I said, the least most of these celebs can do IS be nice (or pretend to be) to keep the fans and their checks coming in.
ITA
I’m sorry, but I totally believe she’s not at all nice. (Us fellow bitches are quite adept at reading the “bitch vibes” of others, and hers is OFF THE CHARTS.)
+1
Agreed. She looks like she can go from zero to bitch in 2 seconds.
😀
bitch-polar!
LOL…that’s true, bella!
100% agree Bella! I feel it too. And, she is getting worse. IMO
Agreed! I’ve never gotten a nice & down to earth vibe from her. Snotty, entitled ass is all I’m reading
deep – She’s become as insufferable to me as the Goopster. And that’s BAD.
@original bell OMG don’t even get me started on “The Goop” just the sight of her makes me sick. It’s to the point now that I just can’t stand that woman. She’s thinks she’s all that and then some. She thinks she is above everyone. I do not like that one at all!!
just a fellow bitch checking in. hey guys!
*waves to bns*
@ Bella-It’s true that we can “smell our own” 😉
ha ha, sooo true! 😀
Besides, she’s had a rep for years now for being a bitchy drama queen. It would not have killed her to simply smile and wave at the fans… seriously chick – that’s your biz!
I’m surprised.. aren’t some of the residences the “real women” she talks so much about. She says she relates to Real people. So there they are.
I get that you are there to work. but take time to at least say hello.
LOL!! spot on!
Spot on indeed.
OMG! We were all, like, “Kate!! Over here!” and like, watching Titanic, and like, the hugest fans in the rain….
Bwahahahaha! Let’s say that this story is true, would you go out in the rain to meet a bunch of random people screaming at your car? I know I wouldn’t.
I think one person got her hopes up that her and Kate were going to be BFF’s and when it didn’t happen she called the tabloids with how “rude” KW is.
Agreed.
I agree too. Why does every fan think they ‘know’ actors? And that actors owe them friendship in kind?
Actors are people, they have bad days, headaches, etc. But they deserve all the privacy that regular people take for granted.
I saw Ted Danson & Mary Steenburgen coming out of a Broadway show once. I had just played a role in a dumb play that she had played in a bad movie years earlier, so I blurted it out in commiseration, but expected NOTHING. I was shocked when she darted right over & wanted to talk about it. Ted Danson looked pissed, and I felt bad, because I really don’t believe in ‘bothering’ stars, but the bad play was so fresh in my mind, I blurted.
Mary S. was exactly how you’d expect. As sweet as anything, because it was HER choice to come over to me. She’s very cool.
Mary really wanted to talk, that was great. But to EXPECT a star to approach YOU for no reason, just because? Kate wouldn’t have time for anything else if she did that all day! It’s hard work being beloved & A-list for 20 years.
Um, couldn’t she just wave and smile?
I’ve disliked her ever since she defended that creep Roman Polanski.
You’ll have a hard time watching any movie if you’re excluding actors who have defended Polanski.
Not saying it’s right, just saying SO MANY do. I think a lot of them have heard HIS SIDE, and haven’t read what actually happened. And he still gets the ‘wife & unborn child brutally murdered for no reason’ free pass. Some only remember that, and forget his other ‘claim to fame’.
I feel the same way. I sort of liked her before that petition, but the Polanski supporters absolutely disgust me now.
ahoyhoy, it’s shocking how many names there were. I just do my best to avoid the ones I remember. Winslet seems like one of the more fervent supporters as she starred in the Polanski movie that flopped a little while ago.
LOL that got me too…”She said she had been waiting in the rainy cold weather with her young children” why are u standing in the rain with two young kids waiting for someone who does not know you u. who wants to get out of the rain do their job and go home!!! Now u wanna bitch about it!
+1
Exactly.
A wave and a smile takes 30 seconds.
AMEN !
But then they’d just b*tch that she only smiled and ran and didn’t come over and talk to them personally. How rude of her to want to do her job. I think in that situation I’d be excited if she did sign autographs or talk to the fans, but not pissed off if she didn’t.
could be she’s just method acting or something, or too wrapped up in the character. some people admit it takes them a lot of time to get into character, they do it way before they start shooting for the day. some actors admit that maybe they come across as rude and aloof even to production staff because of it.
i don’t know if kate is the same way or not.
^^^^^
THIS
It happens to me sometimes. And to many actors too.
I completely agree. Most crew on set know to leave the actors alone. The actors are there to do a job, and whilst many of you think it’s just playing “pretend”, it does actually take a lot of work on the actor’s part, and can require significant concentration.
It’s usually the extras that complain in the press that they’ve been instructed not to look actors in the face. The instructions are issued primarily because many extras achieving eye contact will think it’s OK to just go up to the actor and start chatting. I’ve even seen extras ask the main actors if they can talk to the director about giving them a bigger part.
Firstly the lady admits it was raining and cold, so why would Kate want to get out of her car, especially if she was filming on a tight schedule.
Secondly, words like ‘mean’ and ‘nasty’ should be saved for five year olds, or for something more offensive than not being friendly with complete strangers.
And thirdly, ‘Shanna’ sounds like some sort of creepy Brangeloonie type. She was hurt and devastated? By a movie star not stopping to talk to her? How sad.

Kate didn’t have to go over and shake hands a simple wave and smile could have been an acknowledgement.
Kate doesn’t give me a friendly or warm vibe at all, so I’m not surprised by this.
This.
Agreed.
I can believe she’s turned into a stuck up snooty bitch but this is nothing relevant to that. She was at work doing her JOB, her job isn’t meeting the public..
Her job is selling movies to the public. That’s how she brings in that fancy paycheck; it isn’t for playing pretend really, really well. It’s for producing a product that people want to buy; those people are the public. The occasional smile, the wave, a couple of pictures with those people actually is part of the job. It’s a smaller version of going on Letterman to push the new product/movie.
I’m not saying she couldn’t have waved or acknowledged them in some way but her job is to FILM movies which she was doing, hoe much would it cost to put the filming back by however long it took for her to meet all those people???
i remember the story about Johnny Depp’s very friendly attitude with his fans at Chicago during Public Enemies filming (He invited some fans on the set).
The trouble was that Michael Mann (the director) disliked it because Depp was not focused on his working and was all time in late
Eh, can’t blame Johnny for bunking off that job, that movie was a piece of crap.:-)
I thought it was a decent movie with a point of view trouble and Depp was a miscatting
Johnny’s American though, and from KY. Kate came from a British acting family. The difference in backgrounds can make a HUGE difference in how she relates to fawning Americans.
Some of the shooting was done near my son’s preschool in the next town over. She stopped into a local deli that gets pretty crowded and from all accounts was pretty gracious. Might’ve just been a bad day or a super tight schedule.
Yes, but your story is too reasonable and boring.
It makes for so much better fare if we follow the story of a crazy fan – who watched Titanic 13 times – and whose dreams of meeting Rose (really, who dreams of meeting Winslet?) are crushed by rain and a “nasty” diva actress. I love how they threw senior citizens into the scorned mix as well!
LOL 🙂
13 times 🙂
Oh totally! Wonder if that writer used to work for my beloved Weekly World News, rest its soul…
meh, they do realize that she’s playing parts right? just because she appears warm and friendly onscreen doesn’t make it so in real life. I mean really, she dates a dude named Ned RockNRoll, how much can you expect of her? I get that they might find it rude, but exactly how was it nasty? yes, she could have smiled and waved but it’s not required.
And seeing Titanic 13 times?!? I could barely sit through the first time..
Lol, me either! I never got why it was such a big deal. But I DO remember a co-worker who was OBSESSED. She saw it FIFTY-SEVEN times in the theater. And you know how expensive DVD players were back then? She spent over $1000 buying a new TV and DVD player and speaker system JUST so she could watch Titanic properly when it came out on DVD. Ker-azy!
hahaha, really?!? oh my goodness-I’ve never liked a movie that much
^ this exactly
i knew i always hated her for a reason. whenever she talks, she sounds so stupid. and stop talking about your weight all the time. damn this bish is lucky she somehow? landed the titanic gig, it sure earned her an overrated spot.
She had an Oscar nomination for “Sense & Sensibility” BEFORE she ‘snagged’ Titanic.
Actually, Titanic almost derailed her career, because she got type-cast and people stopped taking her as seriously. It was big-budget, but NOBODY predicted how big that film would become. It wasn’t the career path she had planned or was expecting.
If you haven’t seen “S & S” (also starring Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Hugh Laurie, Hugh Grant etc. My FAVORITE movie!), you should find the movie “Heavenly Creatures”. Either of those films will prove the raw talent she came into this profession with.
S & S is one of my faves, too! Alan Rickman just made me love him even more the way he played that role. 🙂
That is an awesome movie, I watch it every time it comes on!..
One Christmas my mom got me the Sense and Sensibility DVD plus a boxed set of all the Austen TV movies. They’re my go-to when there’s nothing on TV. Love Alan Rickman.
And Tom Hardy as Heathcliff. He’s got such a vibe in it; from ugly brute to hot animal. I may have to watch it again!!
I love love love Rickman. Just saw him in a play in NYC recently . I could listen to him read the phone book
A couple years ago I walked out go another Broadway show & heard that unmistakeable voice behind me! It was him! Of course I said nothing for reasons stated above. He was out seeing a show as a private citizen. It would be rude to intrude.
ah i still haven’t got around that one. anyway. acting aside i have hated her since 2007 or 08 when she started talking. and her oscar speech which was super silly and contrived. yes most speeches are as such and i hate everyone who gives those. also why i hated juliet binoche since 1994.
I think it’s “rude, mean and nasty” to go to a total stranger’s workplace, wait for their car to arrive, then shout and demand their attention lest you go smearing their name in the papers.
But I’ve never lived in a small town, so what do I know about hospitality?
Exactly. And yet again I am reminded that I’m SO GLAD I am not famous. If she would have smiled and waved it would have been, “Ugh, she is so nasty, all she did was wave.”
I just made this comment above. Apparently we think alike.
I agree with you. It’s like the people who get all huffy when someone doesn’t give them an autograph in the middle of their meal. I would hate that, just hate it. And I’d be one of those bitches if I were famous. I understand you’ve got to sell your project, but you don’t have to sell your soul.
Maybe she was , maybe she wasn’t, but some of these “lovely” actresses and actors ( as well as musicians ) need to get off the high horse they rode in on and remember who helped get them the millions . Without fans who see the movies and buy the crap and everything else they wouldn’t be where they are.
Going to see a movie doesn’t mean you own someone. You already got what you paid for, you saw the movie.
I completely agree. When you pay your ticket in a movie theatre, you’re paying to be entertained. Once the credits have rolled, you’ve received the entertainment that you paid for.
Do you think you are entitled to go see the movie again for free, just because you paid for it the first time. Do you think you’re entitled to a free DVD or BlueRay copy of the movie either. I’d say no.
So what makes people think that paying to see a movie somehow entitles them to access to the actors in that movie?
I think when you have a little bit of fame, people think your public property. It one of those things, your damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
I hope Celine Dion is reading this and chuckling.
Give her a break, we don’t know what was going on with her that day. Imagine how many times she has people waiting to meet her, or sign something, or take a photo. She may be open to it 99 times out of a 100, but the 1 time she can’t/won’t do it, it gets reported. This doesn’t seem altogether fair. I dont’ know what her reputation is with fans, but I don’t like articles like this.
I believe it. She seems a bit full of it. Her “I am so humble” act never fooled me.
Kate is very nice when she is not working. I have heard and read many people meeting her in NYC and she is very nice to them.
Actors are not required to shake your hand and sign autographs. Just like you are not required to go see their work. So it evens out.
I don’t know how many of the above commenters have lived in a town where they are filming a movie but we had two major movies filmed in Charlestown over the past couple years (The Town and RIPD) and it’s a pain in the ass. They block off streets with cranes, restrict street parking and generally take over the area with trucks, trailers, film equipment etc. I think at the bare minimum the actors and crew involved owe the locals a bit of respect. Luckily, with both of these movies, the actors and crew were super-respectful with sending notices and setting up meetings with locals, alternative parking etc. Also, it IS part of an actor’s job to ingratiate themselves with the locals (even if it’s just minor waving and smiling-autographs aren’t mandatory). No, they’re not politicians but they have PR people for a REASON, folks. Their income is based on box office draw, which is determined by the audiences that pay to watch their movies. Their image is as important as their talent (not saying it SHOULD be this way-just saying that’s the reality) and part of maintaining that image is being kind to their fans.
THIS^^^^EVERYTHING YOU SAID. (not shouting, just emphasizing)
Hey! Hello! I live in Massachusetts in the Worcester area. And I totally agree with your comment. Well, lots of your comments!
@ZZZ-AWESOME! Always happy to see another “masshole” on the board 😀
Hey! 🙁 🙂 🙂
Have a great weekend everyone!
THIS. A tv show has been filmed in our small city for the past few years, and while everyone loves seeing familiar places on tv, it’s not so fun for the people who live in the part of the city where they typically film. Apparently people are frequently losing access to their homes and parking because whole streets get blocked off for filming.
When they film in the Gaslamp (or the Convention Center or the stadium in San Diego) it just makes a nightmare situation that much worse.
Couldn’t have said it better.
You should put up with the inconvenience of film shoots for the benefit of your city and your neighbors, not because of how sociable the actors are.
For example, many movies have been shot in Cleveland. Why do locals put up with it? Not because actors are nice to them.
It’s because they know these shoots are credited with having created tons of jobs & about $20 million in wages in their state. That’s why Cleveland is now moving to double the movie tax credit they offer film studios.
When I’m annoyed by film shoots, it helps me to remember that my fellow city-dwellers are benefiting either directly, in the form of a paycheck, or indirectly, when the money gets pumped into the local economy and/or used to improve public resources.
I don’t really give a crap about the niceness of the actors – wave, don’t wave, whatever.
Just keep bringing & spending lots of cold, hard cash in my city.
Who says I didn’t put up with it? Obviously I wasn’t out there picketing the set and frankly, I don’t appreciate the condescending tone. I have 8 close friends in the film industry who work for the companies that rent out the film equipment. I am FULLY aware of tax breaks and how the film industry benefits the city/state. You are not enlightening me (contrary to what you may think). As far as not being irritated by being inconvenienced. Let me reframe it for you: you know what other money benefits the city? Money from parking tickets and getting my car towed if I don’t alternate parking streets for street cleaning. But guess what? It doesn’t stop me from getting pissed off if I get towed or ticketed.
The problem is that you and I are arguing about very different things. You seem to think that my argument is about not wanting people to film in my town but my argument is about why it’s so difficult if someone IS filming in my town to be polite to the people that live there. So let’s do this-let’s stop because we’re not talking about the same thing.
PS-If you are the type to get a parking ticket and say “Three cheers! More money to benefit my city!” then I admit that you are a much, much better person than I.
It almost looks like “let em eat cake” attitude. Don’t know what was going on, but many, many major stars wave and smile when people are outside waiting. Some roll down the windows of the car, the car keeps rolling, but folks got a picture and got excited.
No, entertainers don’t give up their lives or privacy, let them and their children walk down the street in peace, but a wave to a group would not have killed her.
Hi Asli! Completely agree (as usual).
OT but I have to ask: how are you feeling? Have you fully recovered from the accident?
She might have been having a bad day. Not everyone can be all smiley and happy all of the time. Sure, a smile and a wave is appropriate considering her fame status, but not everone has to be in the mood to pose with babies and sign pictures every day unless they are running for president. Give the girl a break
Right. You know what? I work in a crappy little municipal office for a crappy paycheck with crappy benefits. I have A LOT of people come in who are just plain nasty and borderline verbally abusive (seriously. what is it with people?).
But you know what? I still smile at every person I see and I treat them kindly (at least, until they push it too far lol). It’s part of having a job. Suck it up.
@DJ-EXACTLY. Same here. If we can do it, then I’m sure someone getting paid millions to play pretend all day can do it also.
DJ – Some people have no boundaries (or MANNERS!) and others are simply projecting. I was a property manager for a good lot of my adult life, and there are just no words…I’d give people warnings: “I’m not going to continue this conversation if you’re going to use that language.” And if they did, I’d hang up the phone or contact the maintenance team on the two-way (to come to the office and remove them). One dude had the unmitigated gall to come to the office after I hung up on him, all butt-hurt that I’d HUNG UP ON HIM! I said “Look, this is a business; I’m a professional; I would NEVER speak to you that way, so what makes you think you can speak to me that way?” Shut him down (and up) real quick.
EVERYONE has stress in their lives but that is no excuse to behave badly.
She was having a bad day?? Please! She works on movie sets all day it wouldn’t have hurt her to do a nice little wave and smile. This chick isn’t a doctor, lawyer, teacher or a construction worker. She’s just an actress who gets paid millions to play dress up and pretend to be other people. Bad day my ass.
I think a quick wave and a smile is always a good idea if you seen fans standing around watching.
That said, I think many people put WAY high expectations on celebrities simply because they are famous, and when the celeb doesn’t met those, suddenly they’re “nasty”. Who knows what was going on with the shoot, she possibly didn’t have time to stroll over for photos (but again, quick wave would have been good). The way this Shannon woman (1 whiny entitled feeling person doesn’t represent all the locals, IMO) describes her, you’d think Kate walked over and kicked her dog.
You gotta love the name of her boyfriend Ned RockNRoll. life. Sometimes people mistake a shy or insecure person for being unfriendly. I have friends who are actors and when you meet them they are shy and come off unfriendly, but when they get on stage they become a completely different person. Just because you are an actor, doesn’t mean that you are naturally out going.
Wow, that guy is as doofy looking as his name! Ew.
I have to agree that waving would have made a huge difference. It’s really not hard.
However, I would never, ever want to be famous!
Agreed. I’ll take my mundane little life over that crap any day.
Especially these days where almost nobody escapes being torn down after being raised up on the pedestal! It’s pretty awful.
I used to be in PR and worked with celebrities all the time, I’m betting her handlers have her scheduled down to the minute and she was just trying to be on-time to the set. She does seem tart and at times like she could be a bitch but my money is on her not wanting to hold up production and fore fitting them dollars.
P.s. I was heartbroken by Molly ringwald who I was dying to meet when we hired her for one of our clients. There’s a good reason why bitch moved to France for over a decade, no one could tolerate her. She was such an a$$hole.
I know it’s obnoxious having people follow you to your workplace demanding acknowledgement, but that’s what comes with being a film actor in our society. It’s not a secret, and if you don’t like it, you probably shouldn’t try to go into acting. I’m sure Winslet likes making her money, and the amount of money she makes is directly proportional to how popular she is, which in turn is based on how many fans she has. They’re her bread and butter. You want bankability in Hollywood, you kiss those people’s asses, because they’re the ones determining your paycheques.
That said, this woman sounds loco, so I might give Winslet a pass. She watched “The Titanic” thirteen times and didn’t figure out that it’s just “Titanic”?
Even if she was on a tight schedule ,as others have said, a wave and a smile take no time. Sounds pretty crappy to me, especially seeing as it was a small town shoot and they know how excited people get when movies come to their town. I really don’t see any excuse for it. Other than down to earth, I am one of the common people movie star is not what she pretends to be… it just smells bad. I used to live in NY and some of the biggest actors in the world were 10 times more friendly than the lowly soap stars and whatnot. I was never an autograph hunter or anything, but if you pass someone on the street and they say hello to you for no other reason than they are a cool badass (Pacino,Dafoe), they do go up in your estimation. It doesn’t take much to make someone’s day, and she just blew off these people for no good reason, shabby imo.
It doesn’t take much to make people’s day.
Yes, I love that. Very true. ☻
Meh, she’s English, we don’t talk to random people. Even making eye contact is inadvisable.
I stopped being a fan of Kate Winslet’s work when I saw that she was great chums with Roman Polanski and Woodie Allen. Two of the biggest perverts in the industry…..it probably accounts for why she has difficulties in keeping her clothes on in films.
Have these people seen any of her movies besides Titanic? I can think of a few where she doesn’t play “warm and nice” characters.
I agree. Her only job is really to act and maybe she didn’t feel like being all sweet and nice that day BUT considering her paycheck it wouldn’t have killed her.
Eh, sometimes when I arrive at or leave work I barely feel like acknowledging my coworkers. I can understand just having a bitchy feeling day.
I’m always surprised when celebs are critized as rude for not signing autographs during their private time. Here in Switzerland its considered rude to bother celebs during when they are not working, ideally you should just pretend to not have seen them/not have recognized them. So in my view the town people were rude for bothering her.
Wow, that first pic pretty much sums it up. On the other hand, the small town folk sound a bit too eager-like stalking eager….
You know, there are celebrities that have the understanding that you do one “freebie” where you go to a local eatery and meet and greet will do wonders for the reputation not to mention make lifelong fans.
On the other hand, if celebrities are eating a meal and plainly want to be left alone then that should be respected.
Zorbitor would gratefully suck up to fans if there were any.
I’m a fan.
LOL I’ve never seen your name around here before, but suddenly I’m a fan!
She’s one rough looking mean bitch in these photos.
Is Star Magazine a reliable source?
These sound like the kind of people that would run to the tabs and complain that “all she did was wave!” while we were standing outside with children and elderly people in the cold rain. Why are you standing out in that kind of weather?
I’m neither here nor there on KW but she was working. Glad handing the public is not required atm.
I don’t agree with the idea that her fans made her famous so she should acknowledge them. First of all, half the time the people staking out celebrities aren’t uber fans, just doing it for the sake of meeting a famous person. Second of all, the only thing she owes them is a movie, if they pay to see it. Same thing with musicians at concerts. You pay to see the concert, they play a concert. That’s it, an exchange of goods and services. They don’t owe you anything outside of that.. they don’t owe you an autograph because you paid for a show.. because they gave you a show.
that’s it. You pay for access to their work not their lives. some fans do act super entitled and it’s really interesting to read about the cultural differences of here vs england vs switzerland. It’s so true. In the US, especially the south, it’s common courtesy to smile and acknowledge people, but in other places that is really forward and inappropriate.
::it comes along with the package of fame and money they are receiving::
I couldn’t disagree more. Just because the public is jealous that some people make money and are recognized by others doesn’t mean those people owe you anything. It isn’t in a public figure’s job description to cater to the public just because you know their name. Her job is to act on screen and play roles, not to sign autographs. We live in a celebrity-obsessed culture which breeds people who have a sense of entitlement to the private lives and rights of others who are as human as anyone else. If you want to read celebrity gossip, so be it. But leave these people alone when you see them. It’s not Kate Winslet’s fault this girl has never seen celebrities and she shouldn’t live her life trying to appease everyone because it won’t work. There is no on/off switch for this, every where the woman goes, whether in the US or UK, any time she steps outside her door, she has to contend with this. It’s not like it’s a one time a day thing. She can’t even get a sandwich or use the restroom without someone harassing her. If she chooses to not pay attention to people, she has every right to do that. To be called mean or rude for just living your life is one of the many examples of how awful it must be to live your life under a microscope and have every action held to such judgment. I admire Kate Winslet for being someone who doesn’t care what the machine thinks her body should look like and who goes about her day without having to bow to everyone. Contrary to popular opinion, this isn’t part of her job description and she isn’t a nasty person for behaving this way, lets all grow up and respect personal space, shall we?
If you’re wounded because a celebrity whom you don’t know didn’t look in your direction and wave, then you are a high-drama person who’s just looking to be hurt on a daily basis.
Agreed! Being paid millions to play make believe and being pampered is so overwhelming I’m sure! Whahhhhhh
Ned needs to keep them sunglasses ON. Now i know why he’s always wearing them! hahaaaa……
I am so happy to not be a public person. Imagine being in a bad mood and because you do not say hi to every passing person you are called a b*tch.
BTW her boyfriend is very funny looking
I think some Massachusetts locals are too starstruck. I was born and raised in the state (still live here) and recently Adam Sandler has been filming in the area (I think we all know that from the Salma Hayek posts) and some of my co-workers met him (or their kids met him, not sure). It’s just Adam Sandler and you should hear them! They are so buzzed about it. They talk as though he were De Niro. Sandler graduated from New Hampshire and has filmed here before, he’s technically from the region.
I mean, I like Adam Sandler and maybe I would be excited too but not at their level.
The film company that is producing the sequel to his film tried to make arrangements to use a HS football field in Marblehead, well, that town is ridiculous.
I think they were offered 200,000 for the field or something and they entered negotiations over it and then held things up because they had to have “town meetings”…imo, they just wanted more money.
Films coming to Mass have intensified because of tax incentives and now we have situations like this one here with Winslet and Sandler. My point being is that I think celebritites like it better when we treat them with respect but also like they are ‘normal’ not special or a ‘star,’ and then they surprise you.
I won ‘t say where my Dad works but he has interacted with some stars and he doesn’t treat them like their aliens and he gets along with them for the most part. You know who the jerks are when you do all that and it still isn’t enough. But I think most people are pleasant or can be.
I see what someone people are saying about this being Kate’s audience but we don’t know HOW they were calling for her attention or if the shoot was not supposed to be made public. Maybe they just showed up when no one was supposed to know that she was supposed to have scenes? Or as others have said maybe she was having a bad day. Or, what if she had waved at them and that still wasn’t enough?
She could be a total witch but this scenario doesn’t sound like the best to back that claim up.
I juist agree with Kaiser, this doesn’t add “fuel to my fire” in regards to her anyway.
Ugh, so many people missing the point. She and the movie crew are essentially invading a small town and inconveniencing its inhabitants (see my post above if you don’t understand how annoying it is to have movies filmed in your neighborhood). This is not a group of fans stalking her on a Universal movie set that she’s working on, guys. Of course she doesn’t HAVE to greet fans, just like you don’t HAVE to say “please” and “thank you”. It’s just the polite thing to do. When you come to someone’s house, you acknowledge them right? She’s basically coming to their house and not saying “hi”. Nobody is demanding that she sign autographs, a simple wave and smile does wonders to please people.
Agree completely!!
The towns are not doing the actors and movie crew a favor by letting them film there.
They are shooting there because the state’s politicians have competed fiercely with other states to offer film studios the highest motion picture tax credits.
Politicians are thrilled to offer these juicy tax incentives to film studios & spend time wooing them because they know a film shoot in your city means job creation & lots of $$$$ getting pumped into the local economy – THAT’S the public’s reward for putting up with the inconveniences of a film shoot.
Because of the money they bring, studios have many options when it comes to shooting locations – if your city is hosting a film shoot, it’s because your politicians, who you & your neighbors elected, campaigned hard to be chosen as a host.
If the people in this town don’t understand that, it’s not the actors who need to go out and press the flesh with the locals. Rather, the town’s political officials should go out and educate the public on how the money the town is getting from the shoot will benefit them.
They are filming there because of the tax breaks and because it’s cheaper than filming elsewhere so yes, they are doing them a favor in that sense. The people who live in the town have virtually no say in this. As stated above, it’s the townspeople who have to deal with blocked streets, no parking signs and trucks, trailers, more traffic etc. Ugh why am I even arguing with you? If you think it’s too much trouble to wave and say hello to the town’s inhabitants then we probably fundamentally disagree about a lot of things. Ah well, as they say, opinions are like a-holes right? 🙂
BTW, as far as I understand, the money goes to the state, not the town. Perhaps the town gets a cut of it but believe me, it’s not going to be life-changing for the people that live there. They’re not going to suddenly get a fancy new town hall or library because Kate Winslet’s new film was shot there.
Also, I never campaigned to have The Town or RIPD shot in my neighborhood. I didn’t get a say in it but I DID have to deal with not being able to park on my street for 2 weeks. Luckily for me, Affleck and crew were class acts. I wonder why it wasn’t hard for them to say “hi” to the local townies who have lived there their whole lives but it was such a hassle for Dame Winslet? Hmmmmm…..
I don’t think it’s “hard to wave”. I’m saying that actors & their manners are the least important cog in this particular wheel.
Your post mentions these inconvenient film shoots without providing context for why states compete so hard to attract them & why locals and business owners may want them there despite the inconvenience. I wanted to provide that context.
My other point is that nobody is doing anyone a favor. When the film studio is attracted to a town with tax credits and local businesses benefit from feeding & housing the film crew, it’s a mutually beneficial economic exchange.
Winslet is an irrelevant peon in this situation. Your annoyance is better aimed at your politicians, either for failing to inform you of how the money is being used, or for failing to use it “well” (which is subjective, I know) In either case, you should think about getting some friends together to write some letters/make some calls to your elected officials – believe me, it works.
The info on how film shoots have benefited your city/state should be on the web – I’ve gone over the info for my state with a fine-toothed comb because I don’t like being inconvenienced either. If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll see if I can pull up info for your location.
You know what? Rereading my posts do come aross as angry but I’m really not. Hell, if Winslet wants to give the finger to the local people she has my blessing. Seriously. Who cares? It’s Friday. We had a nice lively discussion that should have been had over an ice cold Basil gimlet on a patio somewhere.
Hell, let’s invite Winslet and I’ll buy her an appletini 🙂 Seriously, you made some good points. I still maintain it wouldn’t have hurt for her to be polite but whevs. Have a good weekend, D1 and I hope you don’t get any parking tickets 😉
No problem, and I’m sorry if I sounded condescending. I’m kind of a policy wonk and I do like to go on.
I do agree with you that actors should be encouraged to be nice to locals. It’s easier to be good-natured about being inconvenienced by a film shoot when the people who are the public face of the shoot make an effort to be friendly.
….But if Kate comes along and agrees to pay our bar tab, I have to admit that I’ll let her flip off anyone she wants. Have a good weekend!
TOKitt – I don’t think you sound angry. Maybe I just know your writing style and tone?
It is essentially true that whenever people are filming ANYWHERE it’s a pain in the ass for the locals. A little goodwill (i.e. a wave or a smile) goes a long way when you consider that many of said locals deal with even less parking space; lack of access to roads, parking garages, or their own homes; and the influx of those trying to catch a peek or be “extras” on-set.
I think that a lot of people are passing judgement on some things they don’t understand. Acting is not “playing pretend” or “playing dress up.” Yes, it’s easy to stand in front of a camera and smile, but it isn’t easy to act like it isn’t there and become a character. I study acting right now, and I am always moody and irritable right before I go on stage if people try to talk to me. It’s just because I am trying to get in character and I don’t want to break it by waving and someone across the wings or by chatting with somebody about the weather. And outside of the stage, I am completely different, my friends say I’m the type that always has to be nice to people. Maybe Winslet is the same way.
And these people are not entitled to get a smile and a wave out of her, especially if she’s trying to focus herself for work. That what premieres and social events are for. It isn’t part of the actor job description that constitutes they must stop and have a chat with every single fan. Even if the movie is being filmed in these fans’ town.
And for those who are boo-hooing for the “terribly rough life” of being a celebrity, maybe they need to get out a little more often, no? Maybe see what a really tough job looks like? Go visit a coal mine or a factory. There are people who risk their health and lives every day just trying to make a living.
There’s a reason why everyone and their mother wants to be in the entertainment industry while factories/service industry struggles to find quality employees. It’s NOT A BAD GIG. In fact, it’s a cake gig. Nobody is jealous, (please grow up with the overly simplistic “jealousy” argument) just saying that it doesn’t hurt to be polite when you make millions and have a great job that many would kill for.
/end rant
SHe’s in the wrong business if she doesn’t want ot play to the gallery. Besides, surely if porking someoen’s husband is not bothering her, why should this?
Didn’t think it was asking a lot but I guess for some it is. Be polite to people. It goes a long way.
She seems very full of herself and very busy marrying and divorcing like a mad woman.
I’ve been lucky enough to happen upon a film set twice in my life. It was really fun and I would never expect the actors to acknowledge me because they are WORKING. That being said, she could have at least waved to them. I had one actor talk to me even though he was technically at work and that was a really cool experience. It wouldn’t take much for Kate to make these locals day just by smiling and waving. Maybe she was in a bad mood? I would be if I had to look at that man (Ned Rock n Roll??? Really?! UGH!) every day let alone sleep with him…ewwww.
I understand these celebrities want and deserve their privacy like the next person but, when your fans are the reason why you’re getting paid millions of dollars a film, the least you can do is smile and wave in their general direction! If the “invasion of her privacy” is that much of a bother maybe she should getting an average, blue collar job and pay $20 a movie like the rest of us!
Because not even a celebrity is entitled to a bad day on occasion, right?
None of us know what type of morning this woman was having, imagine having one of those mornings where nothing goes right and than you go to work and 100 people are gawking, staring and yelling at you! I know I wouldn’t be too pleased. On a side note the woman complaining in the article seems like she would be complaining regardless, like, Oh Kate came over and signed autographs but not mine(the horror). Who says celebs have to be nice? Chevy chase is a notorious ahole and people still watch community….
shes and academy award winning actress…she could have ACTED like she was in a good mood!
If I worked outside of the home and a crowd of “adoring” fans gathered around my office clamoring for my attention, I’d probably feel agitated, especially if I wasn’t having a good day or if I was not feeling well.
I have a bigger problem with the locals telling Kate they “love” and “adore” her. How effing weird would that be? They don’t know her. Especially for someone who is reported to be as down to earth as Kate Winslet is, It would no doubt be bizarre to have people behaving in such a way. If she gave in to those people, she’d have to give in to many more. Nope. Go track down some famewhore like KK or PH if you feel the need to have your own ego stroked by garnering the attention of another egomaniac whom you are so unfortunate as to idolize.
This is totally a two sides argument. Kate doesn’t need to be told by her staff or film production to give a smile and wave to the crowd. She could have done it, she chose not to. Okay so she’s not a Jackman or Hiddleston.
But I fail to see why the crowd and in particular the woman named in the article had such high expectations and why she feels the whole town was hurt (c’mon!!!) by this. Get over it and move along.
Winslet hasn’t always played ‘nice’ characters onscreen and in real life she comes across as sweet and sour as any other person.
Plzzzzz
This is so ridiculous. She’s under no obligation, moral or practical, to intermingle with the local yokels. None. Zip.
And plz don’t give me this, “but they’re the ones making her rich!” bull. That’s like saying you or I should be nice to everyone we meet, because they pay taxes that support you and me (by paying for the infrastructure, etc).
Or: to make this more direct, ARod [a pro baseball player) should be nice to fans because they “pay” him. Except he’s supposed to be an ass to fans. But guess what? He’s still one of the highest paid athletes in the world! So suck it, you overly entitled “fans!”
Agreed. And how pathetic do these people sound? Seriously, get of your butts, quit watching her movies if that’s what you feel you must do, and go get educated and/or get yourself a job. Your idolization of this girl is embarrassing. This is why many celebrities choose to live peaceful quiet lives outside of the states.
BTW, being nice to fans has zero relevance to person’s moral worth. Take Mark Wahlberg. Supposed to be super nice to fans, always signing autographs and what not. I know, cuz I have an autograph of him and he and his whole entourage were super cool.
Doesn’t change the fact that he’s a total misogynistic, racist d-bag, though.
I’d much rather have someone “mean” to the fans who’s a good person than a d-bag who is “nice” to fans.
Some celebrity are so full of themselves ,in the end they are just human like everybody else at least she should wave to the fans .
Here’s how I look at it:
Each day, the President of the United States gets up, walks to his office with endless staff and security surrounding him. He walks into his office where a huge stack of paperwork is awaiting him and he then goes over each document carefully to avoid any misreading and he has to be careful because a single misinterpretation can end up triggering war or at least a diplomatic crisis.
Then he goes over meetings with his staff and ends up making calls and makes chocies taht will affect every single person living in the United States. Even the smallest choices have a historical effect on things. He then has to go out and meet/greet the public, perform in ceremonies, and also at the same time, SMILE and look like he enjoys it, while getting it right.
Then he goes to a few luncheons, state dinners, and a hadnful of receptions. Then back to the office to read more papers and read more reports and make more decisions. In times of war, he than has to disucss things with his generals and end up making choices that cost LIVES.
If a pampered actress can’t cope with a little waving and smiling and signing autographs, then bluntly put, she is in the wrong business and acting spoiled. If she can’t ‘cope’ with it because she is feeling ill, then she needs to get therapy. If the President of the US can face things like the areas I mentioned, surely teh ditz can handle a few autographs.
Apples and oranges.
Precisely. Everyone’s nervous system is wired differently to handle stressors. Not only that, but using the analogy of the POTUS’s job – a position which only one person in the WORLD holds – is beyond reaching.
Thanks Kaiser for being sensible. Every celebrity has a story like this. Even Meryl Streep! These people need to get a life. Kate Winslet has signed zillions of autographs and greeted zillions of fans. She doesn’t approach one group and people want to judge? It was rainy and she was getting to work. She likes to get into chara ter and not be disturbed.
A lot of Angelina Jolie fans have hated Kate since she forgot her name. I expect them to love this story, but they are foolish to judge.
Kate is turning into a bitch:
1. During the promotion of the 3D version of Titanic recently, she said that Leonardo di Caprio gained weight since Titanic and that she had lost weight since filming Titanic
2. then she said that Celine Dion’s song “my heart will go on” made her want to throw up.
3. now this
But he has gained weight and she has lost weight. Also, that song makes everyone want to throw and I refuse to think poorly of anyone who verbalizes their distress over the ENDLESS playing of that song. I fail to see how telling the truth twice makes someone a bitch.
She’s rich and famous because a studio thinks she’s bankable. They pay her, the adoring public does not directly hand her their sweaty little clumps of fan money. Maybe she’s in a bad mood, or maybe she’s a miserable bitch. She’s paid to act, which she does-and well, not to be a nice person.
Are these curls natural?
They are lovely. I like her natural look (if this is indeed her natural hair).
Anyhow, I don’t see how this is considered so rude and bitchy. I mean she is human and she goes to work and maybe she wanted some peace and quiet.
Anyone who would have their kids out in the cold rain waiting to catch a glimpse of a movie star they idolized in middle school deserves every bit of disappointment they could possibly get.
I want addresses of where everyone works so I can gather 100 people and coo over you as you walk from your car to the front door of the establishment and then I want you to justify to me why you didn’t wave at me and/or come over and instantly want to be besties because I love you from afar and I frequent the place you work ALL the time and therefore know you!
Wait? You don’t think you’d be perfectly polite and cater to MY needs?
Does that sound like lunacy to you? Cuz it sure does to me.
Add to that the increasing number of crazy stalkers. Sometimes the ones that claim to love you the most are the ones that kill you. Unless she walks around with security, that has to be a consideration. But remember – then you are accused of acting like you are so superior with your posse. You can’t win.
Kate should move to Australia.
It’s the unspoken law that you never harass a celebrity. In fact, you’d look like a total dickhead if you did.
Where I live, in Sydney, Australia, I’ve seen HEAPS of celebs wandering around. Keanu Reeves, Naomi Watts and her hubby, Nicole Kidman, Baz Luhrmann etc. They might be having coffee, at the beach, whatever.
Everybody just ignores them.
Americans seem to be a bit over zealous with the whole autograph/take my photo with a celeb thing.
Shanna Swan sounds like a damn crazy person. “I saw her movie 13 times, she OWES me!!!” I wouldn’t subject my young children to a cold rainy day to satisfy some selfish delusional fantasy of getting the autograph of someone who, in the end, is simply another human being no better than anyone else.
That’s why you don’t wait hours and gasp at sightings of these people. They don’t care about the fans, they are there for their “art”. Even though you through the trouble of buying the tickets and the magazines they could care less–well most of them.
Is she still considered a celebrity?
Wow she looks gorgeous with the red hair – so glad she went back. I never liked her as a blonde.
Is that cretinous looking fuzz-face her boyfriend? Yuck. His features look very undeveloped.
That is the case for most the celebrities this site bitches about. Most are just trying to lives their lives and sometimes just get to the job but entitled fans think if they don’t engage with them they are stuck up or bitchy.
Maybe you all should think about that more before you continue to bitch about others.
Oh for God’s sake she wasn’t there for a press junket or a meet and greet, she’s shooting a movie and all that entails. What is wrong with these stupid locals? They didn’t get a photo with their ugly child, an autograph they can sell on Ebay or look at once a decade to remember how wonderful it was to meet a stranger who will never think of them again. Cut me a break, this woman is a consummate professional and her job isn’t catering to lonely sad housewives with nothing better to do than gawk at a studio shoot, looking like goobers. This woman is an ass, and a bad parent for teaching her children to invade other people’s space and spaz out when rejected. Classless hicks.
She lives in the same county as me. I don’t know her but alot of my work colleagues do & they’re always telling me how normal she is and how much she does for local charities.
just be nice to people when you’re “up” cuz you’re gonna meet them on the way “down”, lol
Ha! I was thinking this same thing. Whenever I read her intereviews in mags, I feel it’s best to stick my nose in the air while I read b/c that’s how she comes off.
I think the comments about Celine’s song finally turned me off to her, and I’ve seen a few of her movies. I actually can’t stand Titanic, but if I had the opportunity to speak w/KH, I would never say the movie sucked and is one of the worst I’d ever seen. I’d expect my personal common sense/politeness filter to take over.I’m not a Celine super-fan or anything, but that was plain tacky given the impact of that song on that movie’s success. Just tacky.
I’d bet if people stopped seeing her movies (making her less bankable) or buying mags w/her on them, she’d try to be more “regular.” Please.
I live near Shelburne and it is a very sweet town with exceedingly sweet, simple, down to earth people. It’s the kind of stuck-in-time, beautiful, wholesome, picturesque New England town to which tourists flock for the holidays when they light up the Bridge of Flowers with candles in brown paper bags all along the bridge and everyone cavorts and the kids run up and down Main Street with their friends as the locals all chat on the sidewalk.
It has a general store/organic bakery that is family-owned, employs local kids, has been there forever, sells goat cheese made by locals (one of whom won the WORLD cheese competition in France for it’s hard goat cheese) and seems right out of a movie.
There is also “The Potholes” — a deep dip and bend in the river which has carved out a series of little stone “pools” people can swim in, a glassblowing company at the river’s edge which opens it’s doors at night so people can watch them work, a few very sweet and New-York-quality restaurants with 4-6 tables, artisan shops and galleries, and almost all residents have gardens in which they grow much of their own food in addition to their flowers. Augusten Burroughs’ mother lives there and tourists drive by her house a lot — well, they did when Running With Scissors first came out — and no one cares or gets upset at them even when traffic comes to a halt on all 1/4 mile of “downtown”.
It’s a big arts town (and artist friend of mine who lives there was flown to Dubai to show her work in a royal gallery) and is in an area very heavy with artists, but, unlike nearby Northampton which has become a chic and boutique-y parody of it’s former organic self, it is the real deal; no poseurs or scenesters or eos, but just hard-working artists, writers, musicians and farmers all working and living together in a peaceful and simple way.
You see families everywhere hanging out on the teeny Main Street sipping hot mulled cider or cocoa in the winter; Shops put out hot cider and cocoa for shoppers, for free, though no one in town is making huge money, but for the handful of New Yorkers (whose “ways” are tolerated with a smile) who have summer homes there or in the towns nearby. Bill Crosby lives there and can walk around town freely and no one bothers him, but to say hi, because it is the sort of town in which everyone you pass will smile and say hello. It is a town in which people are motivated by quality of life over materialism or greed – it still has a single screen theater in the center of town, with beautiful, original architecture and they put on plays with all the locals and kids and have benefits for various causes.
The residents abide the tourists with respect and friendliness. We drive up there a lot to walk around, have dinner, and marvel at how such a sweet teeny town can still exist amidst the chaos of the world.
So maybe this woman (whom I do not know) is not crazy or a stalker but just expected some of the same or what is everyday life there? Maybe she *is* delusional in thinking that the de rigueur smile and “hello” that happens all day long, every day, on the town streets would not be too much to ask of an actress they admire, and spend the grocery money on in order to admire her skill in her movies?
It takes me approximately 2 seconds to do the same, — wave and smile and even say hello (all three!) so really, can KW truly not spare 2 seconds to acknowledge the movie-going public whose teeny town her film has vastly interrupted? Because to close one single street in Shelburne is to mean people have to go well out of their way to get to the market or out of town; there are few ways to get in and out of this town.
Shelburne is the sort of place one wishes was more exemplary of this country. I think she can spare a smile.
People there tend to be extremely old school and laid back. It is not a cutesy town that is mostly facade, it is a tourist attraction because it is that sort of town. I have seen and heard of celebrities in town when they are in the area and people don’t freak out or gawk; they just stop and look a bit.
There’s a reason that people from Massachusetts are called Massholes. I can say that because my fiancee is from there… lol (He’s not one of them though!)
This reminds me of a story a few Nikita fans came up with last year. It was cold outside and they were waiting for Maggie Q to come out and greet them, but she never did. So, she was branded a ‘diva’ and a ‘bitch’ who thinks she’s better than her fans and doesn’t acknowledge anyone who doesn’t work on set. I’m sorry, but it was freaking FREEZING that day in Toronto and she was working. Get off your high horses people and more importantly, get over yourselves while you’re at it. She usually does come out to sign autographs and meet fans, but people were bitching that day because Shane West came out and she didn’t. ONE FREAKING DAY. Honestly, more often than not the fans are the ones acting like entitled little crybabies. Not the celebrities, they don’t owe you a personal friendship. If someone bothered me at my job, I’d be pretty annoyed as well especially if they were shouting demands. That’s not the time or the place. This is a classic case of an overzealous fan hoping Kate would become her BFF and when it didn’t pan out, she decided to run to the tabloids to bitch about how ‘rude, mean and nasty’ Kate Winslet was. Give me a break.
She comes across as arrogant in her interviews. Women who brag about how fertile they are, don’t endear themselves to others who have a hard time conceiving children. They just make other women hate them.
Kate is getting old,Hollywood will toss her out pretty soon. Then she will join the long list of actresses who complain about ageism.
Kate does have that bitchface going on in most candid unposed images. That’s not to say that she is a cow, but I stopped appreciating her when she came out with obvious lies about not subscribing to diet/exercise and botox and loathing the plastic look and then every posed photograph of her (Vanity Fair, etc) was photoshopped (and she didn’t even object). So she’s a hypocrite and I think she is overrated as an actress. She really belongs in those boring English period pieces and I don’t get the fascination about her as an actress.
Even in Titanic, I just wanted to slap her. She is proof that acting popularity is about white bread looks and little else.
Plays warm people = must be kind. God, I so hope Michael C. Hall doesn’t need to work in this town. 😀
MAYBE she was just having a bad day. There could have been a whole host of reasons she didn’t feel like ‘being nice’ to these people. I understand that ‘comes with the job’ but Jesus Christ…give the girl a break.
Guys… She has a job to do… She’s not there to entertain you.. weird as that sounds…
Stop expecting them to be ANYTHING like a character they have played. It is this sort of behavior that leads child stars to go over the edge. Be respectful and leave people the hell alone and give them some god-damn space! Jeez!
